A few dozen fragments of slipped architectural pan and cover tiles were recovered in T26 in 2022.  The overwhelming majority of these came from Locus 14, the collapse of the OC2/Workshop’s roof.  This suggests that the roof bore many slipped roof tiles.

The next largest concentration of three tiles, including PC20220067, a vitrified slipped pan tile fragment, was found in Locus 3, a soil deposit that fills the linear cut, Locus 22.  It is not immediately clear why these are located within a cut in the floor of the OC2/Workshop floor, but their presence indicates this technology possibly predates the construction of the building.

A cataloged fragment, PC20220007, a slipped pan tile with finger impression, was recovered from Locus 1, the top layer of excavation which represents an area level with, but to the north of, the OC2/Workshop floor.  This fragment likely also once roofed the OC2/Workshop structure.

Locus 7, a carbon-included soil below 2019’s Locus 3, the OC2/Workshop floor which was removed, also had one fragment.  It is not immediately clear why slipped tile would be located beneath the floor of the building.
