Description |
Locus 8 is a light brown clay and soil mixture of loose compaction that represents the top layer of excavations where work was paused in 2019. The layer is located to the north of the northern extent of the OC2/Workshop floor within a depression found in 2019. The slope of the depression is indicated by the sloping soil of Locus 10 and the pan tile fragments of Locus 12. The soil and inclusions of Locus 8 are the fill within the depression revealed in 2019. The layer revealed a tile fall that contained a large amount of plaster fragments, roof tiles, and small amounts of pottery. The tile fall is a result of the collapse of the OC2/Workshop building. The tiles within the fall are preserved in significantly smaller fragments than the tile fall found in Locus 14. The two areas of tile fall are likely from the same event but the difference in preservation and the elevation change between Locus 8 and Locus 14 is not clear and merits further investigations in 2023. A single cataloged object was found in Locus 8, a fragment of plaster with reed impressions (PC20220011). Locus 8 contained a total of 213 fragments of plaster within the roof collapse, including 44 fragments of plaster with reed impressions that were an element of the roof of the OC2/Workshop. |
