Description |
Locus 17 is a rectangular shaped worked limestone with rounded edges measuring 0.95m long by 0.83m long. The surface of the stone is cracked and preserves grooves that may indicate tool use. Locus 17 lies ca. 2 m south of Locus 5. The stone is abbuted by the poorly preserved plaster surface of Locus 16. The stone is also abutted by a cut in the OC2/Workshop floor that extends from Locus 3 to the east through the extent of the trench and is known to continue for some distance to the east. The cut was not excavated in 2022 and further excavation is needed to investigate the function of the cut and its relationship to the worked stone of Locus 17. Locus 17 is a column pad in the workshop structure.A wooden column likely rested on the stone and functioned to support the roof of the structure. It is surrounded by plaster floor which functioned as the working surface of the workshop. The plaster floor was constructed around the column pads after they were deposited. |
