Description |
Locus 18 is an irregularly shaped worked limestone with rounded edges that is partially within the limits of excavation. It extends 0.52 m in from the western most baulk wall and within T26 is 0.70 m wide. The surface of the stone is cracked and preserves grooves that may indicate tool use. Locus 18 lies ca. 2 m west of Locus 5. The stone is abbuted by the plaster surface of Locus 2. The stone is also abutted by a cut (Locus 22) in the OC2/Workshop floor that was filled by Locus 19. A tile lying on the surface of Locus 19 rested on the edge of Locus 18. Further excavation is needed to investigate the function of the cut and its relationship to the worked stone of Locus 18. Locus 18 is a column pad in the workshop structure.A wooden column likely rested on the stone and functioned to support the roof of the structure. It is surrounded by plaster floor which functioned as the working surface of the OC2/Workshop. The plaster floor was constructed around the column pads after they were deposited. |
