Description | Ano Vayia is a toponym given to a hill that rises South of the plateau of Vayia. The area of the LOCA is at the highest point of the hill. Classical-Hellenistic tower and associated building complex and scatter of artifacts on adjacent hillslope. Two large buildings. Ancient construction. Rough polygonal masonry with no signs of mortar. Some examples of cut stone blocks and some of the polygonal blocks in the lowest courses of the walls are quite large. Wall oriented to the cardinal directions. The LOCA is a large stone structure with six well-preserved walls, and a circular structure. There are scattered concentrations of artifacts in and around the structure. See Caraher, Pettegrew, and James 2010. See Caraher, Pettegrew, and James 2010. |
