Trench Description | F1 is a 5 by 5 meter trench located in the southern portions of area F (map). Excavations were undertaken in this trench during the 2000, 2001 and 2004 field seasons. A total of 133 loci were excavated over this period. F1 defines the chronology of Area F at Kenan Tepe since it was one of the few trenches in this area to reach virgin soil. In the course of the excavation of this trench the sequence from the first half of the Early Bronze Age through a sequence of Late Chalcolithic phases is well documented. Remains excavated in this trench include an Early Bronze Age cobbled work surface, six burials including one that is difficult to date but several others that are well sealed by Early Bronze age surfaces. The late Chalcolithic levels in this trench are characterized by a variety of domestic contexts including walls, floors and an oven. |
