Designator Burial
General remarks This is the burial that is in the southwest corner of the trench. The burial was unfortunately left uncovered all year long, and so there has been a great amount of contamination and disintegration. The bones are very difficult to articulate at the present time because of these circumstances. The burial begins with the head about 13 cm from the west baulk in the locus and continuing for about a meter parallel to the south baulk. Found near the burial was a small completely unbroken pot (3cm diameter, 2cm tall) that probably is related to this locus. The pot was found at the area where the feet of the burial, if they had been there, would have been, but slightly off to the north. Also found in the arms of the burial was a small pottery jug, complete and unbroken, about 9cm high. This small jug was almost certainly related to the burial. July 17th the locus was extended to encompass more of what may be the burial area. It went from an original width of 0.70 to a wider 1.10 meters. Dr. Paine believes that the burial may actually be two separate burials, so that may also confuse the situation. I believe that it is only one burial.

Strat cuts 1019
Strat remarks same as L1019, the burial is both below and cutting into L1019 because of the incorrect decision to continue the locus L1019.

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
