General remarks This is a new area which for now we are excavating as a wall. We came across these two parallel lines which ran through the center of the trench, starting at the W baulk and going towards the E baulk, pretty much perpendicular. Unclear as to whether or not it is a wall, although for now this is how we are excavating it. As we ended this locus we were still unsure as to whether or not this was a wall locus or merely part of a larger pavement and we were able to pick up these lines easier. Uncertainty regarding walls reigns supreme this year.

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
