General remarks	L1004 is a disturbed burial -- probably a result of frequent plowing because the bones are near the ground surface. The soil is darker and redder than the surrounding soil in L1002 and there is a large concentration of bone laying flat on the soil. The bones found in situ were large leg bones. We also picked up some fragments of skull. I sifted 1 bucket the day after we closed the locus because I ran out of time the day previous, so there is one KT 1020 for 8/9/2000. The hardness of the soil around the burial does not indicate a pit burial.

Has note	Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
