Description | Locus 73 is the channel extending north south across the colonnaded corridor to the east of the stairway and floor. It is composed of small sandstone ashlars, roughly 20 cm north south by 4 cm east west by 10 cm in height. The two rows of small ashlars line a 23 cm gap, forming the channel. The channel roughly lines up with the vertical channel in the south wall, Locus 2. It likely extends under the blocked colonnade wall into the vaulted channel (Locus 47). There is no obvious evidence of hydraulic plaster, so it is thought that it probably held a pipe. This channel would have been underneath the floor of the corridor, which is not extant in the area. Locus 73 is phased with the main construction of the Bath Complex to Stage 2. |
