Description Locus 24 is the vertical channel cut into the middle of Locus 2, which meets Locus 73, a channel extending across the floor of the ‘colonnaded corridor.’ The channel cuts through the bottom four courses of Locus 2, and while the stones are very degraded and worn away, it appears that the channel was cut into the ashlars instead of being left as a gap during the original construction of the wall. The channel is quite deep (36 cm), and may go further back into the wall. Like Locus 13, it is thought that this channel was connected with some sort of water system, likely bringing waste water from the Residential Quarter and the south of the Temple to the main canalization to the north. Its connection with Locus 73 supports this idea, as this channel seems to dump into Locus 49, the finely constructed east-west channel first seen in the ‘well room.’ This locus is phased to Stage 2, the main construction of the Roman Baths, because of its connection with the other channels of the complex.
