Description Locus 13 is a vertical channel cut into the east of Locus 2. It is an irregular cut, and of unclear purpose – nothing was found set into or affixed to the channel to give any indication of its use. Notably, a complete jug was found at the foot of the hole, but this is thought to just be part of the collapse which that soil was part of. The channel is similar to Locus 24, another channel further to the west, which is associated with a horizontal channel extending across the floor of the ‘colonnaded corridor.’ As the bottom of this channel was not fully excavated (it extended below Locus 12, and the focus of excavation shifted elsewhere before it could be fully exposed), there may be a connecting horizontal channel below the exposed level. This hypothesized channel could easily connect with the east-west channel, Locus 47, which is thought to be carrying waste water. Locus 13 could then be seen as carrying waste water from the south area of the Temple and Residential Quarter to the north, but the paucity of information directly connected to the channel prevents anything but conjecture. The locus is phased as part of Stage 2, with the main construction of the Bath Complex.
