Description | Locus 44 is the soil below both Locus 40 and Locus 43 in the west of the trench. It is a red brown (Munsell 5 YR 4/4) fine silt, quite uniform and with few inclusions. Small amounts of pottery and bone are present. Little of this locus was excavated, as it was determined to be a good stopping point for the excavation in the area. It is quite possibly wadi soil (the red color is very suggestive of that). Below both Locus 40 and Locus 43, it likely dates to the earlier construction associated with Locus 40, and with this interpretation in mind, Locus 44 is phased to Stage 2. |
