Description	Locus 3 is a yellowish-brown, somewhat densely packed, claylike soil. It has fewer roots in the soil than the previous loci and is heavily included with small stones five to ten centimeters in length. Both the initial and closing surfaces of Locus 3 sloped gently downward from north to south. Five stumps thirty to sixty centimeters in length are present at surface level. At the final depth reached in Locus 3 this season, a stone packing feature was visible. The packing was located in the northwestern corner of the main trench, stretching 1.5m from the northwestern corner along the northern baulk wall and stretching 1.2m from the northwestern corner along the western baulk wall. It was comprised of around forty-five to fifty stones which were ten to fifty centimeters in length and were relatively tightly packed. Worn fragments of terra cotta, pottery, bone--some of which was burnt--, slag, vitrified terra cotta, Senese coin, medieval pottery, bronze fragments, possible loom weight fragment, and a flake of chert were found in this locus. The soil pack was between eighteen and thirty-four centimeters deep, but due to time constraints Locus 3 was not excavated to completion. Locus 3 is the equivalent to Locus 6 in the extension of T-87.
