Pick pass initiated in the easternmost meter of the trench moving westward in one meter strips. Soil sorted by hand into buckets, remains consistent with Locus 3 . Small stones (2-10cm) and roots remain included in the soil. Also continuing to remove soil from stumps and their root systems to work towards removal. Few materials found, including terra cotta, pottery, a fragment of bone, and a fragment of shell. Additionally, a fragment of vitrified terra cotta found in the western half of the trench.

Locus 3

First pick pass completed and second initiated along the eastern baulk wall moving west in one meter strips. Soil, consistent with Locus

3 , sorted by hand into buckets. Soil continues to be included with roots and small stones. Terra cotta and pottery recovered in small concentrations, as well as one fragment of slag. Because slag has been found in Locus 3 at a medium-high frequency, it is now being collected in bulk. In the western half of the trench a bronze coil fragment recovered.

Locus 3

Second pick pass completed. Third pick pass begun in the eastern meter moving west in one meter strips. Soil remains consistent with Locus 3 and sorted by hand into buckets. Roots and stones heavily included throughout the locus. Terra cotta, pottery, bone, and slag continue to be recovered in low-medium concentrations. One of the large (40-60cm)

stumps in the western half of the trench removed using the pick axe. Bottom of the stump cleaned via trowel in order to recover any materials pulled in by the root system; a few fragments of worn terra cotta and one fragment of pottery found. Area beneath the stump leveled as well. Stumps defined more and roots clipped.

Third pick pass resumed in the second meter from the east. Soil remains consistent with Locus 3 , sorted by hand into buckets. Soil pack continues to be included with small stones (2-10cm) and many roots. Terra cotta, pottery, and slag recovered. Third pick pass completed. Axe used to section the large stump (50-80cm) between the two tree clusters with their soil margins. Pick axe used to remove soil beneath the

remaining portion of the stump and tap root severed by means of the pick axe. The underside of the stump defined via trowel to remove the still clinging soil; no artifacts recovered. The area beneath the stump leveled to that of the rest of the trench using the pick axe. Soil hand sorted into buckets, remains consistent with Locus 3 . The last stump (40-50cm) in the central southern sector removed. The bottom of the stump cleaned; no artifacts recovered. Fourth pick pass initiated in the east, moving westward in one meter strips. Soil turned up remains consistent with Locus 3 , hand sorted into buckets. Small stones (2-10cm) and roots included in the soil pack. Terra cotta recovered as well as a possible chert flake.
