Began first pick pass at the eastern baulk wall moving west in one meter sections. Soil turned up remains consistent with Locus 3 , hand sorted into buckets. Materials recovered include terra cotta and pottery. Soil pack remains included with roots and small stones (2-10cm). A fragment of vitrified terra cotta found in the second meter from the east.

Locus 3

Fragments of slag found in the western half of the trench. First pick pass completed and the second begun again at the east. Soil hand sorted into buckets is consistent with Locus 3 . Soil pack heavily included with

roots and a medium concentration of small stones (2-10cm). Terra cotta and pottery recovered. A fragment of finished terra cotta, possibly part of a feline spout, recovered from the second meter from the east.

Locus 3

Second pick pass finished and third begun in the eastern meter moving westward in one meter swaths. Soil turned over is consistent with Locus 3 , sorted into buckets by hand. Small stones (2-10cm) present in medium concentrations and roots still present in high concentrations. Materials recovered include terra cotta and pottery. Pick pass paused in the third meter from the east. Roots clipped.

Third pick pass resumed in the third meter from the east moving west. Soil consistent with Locus 3 , sorted by hand into buckets. Roots remain prevalent. Small stones (2-7cm) included in the soil pack. Terra cotta and pottery recovered, as well as a few fragments of slag. Third pick pass completed and fourth initiated along the eastern baulk wall, now doing two meter strips (i.e., half the trench at a time). Soil sorted by hand into buckets continues to be consistent with Locus 3 . Small rocks (2-10cm) included in the soil pack in medium concentration while roots continue to be included in high concentration. Terra cotta and pottery recovered. In the eastern half of the trench a fragment of bronze recovered.

Fourth pick pass completed and a fifth initiated in the eastern half of the trench moving west. Soil remains consistent with Locus 3 , included with roots and small stones (2-10cm), hand sorted into buckets. Materials recovered include terra cotta and pottery. A fragment of bronze found in the eastern half.

Locus 3

In the western half stones which feel larger (maybe 10-30cm?), but which are not yet visible, are being encountered, especially along the western baulk wall. One larger stone, currently exposed to a length of 10cm, about in the middle N-S and approximately 1.5m from the western baulk wall, visible also. In the western half, a fragment of vitrified terra cotta recovered with modern breaks.

Locus 3

Another fragment of vitrified terra cotta with modern breaks discovered, but due to the

frequency at which vitrified terra cotta has been recovered in Locus 3 , it will now be collected in bulk. Finished cleaning fifth pick pass and roots clipped.
