July 19th, 2024 AM: We threw a pickpass from the W edge going east throughout the surface of locus 5. Soil is slightly less compact, rock and root inclusions are consistent. Finds remain abraded tile and few pottery. A sweep of locus 4 began in the northern most meter in preparation of closing photos. Once locus 4 and 2 were fully swept, closing photos were taken for each loci facing N and E. Another pickpass was thrown in locus 5 starting W and moving E. Inclusions remain consistent, terracotta finds seem to be slightly more preserved, we are encountering pottery more consistently. We are laying out trench lines in the recently closed loci (2 & 4) to open loci 6-9 to define the features excavated in the space of the trench SW of locus 5. A third pickpass was thrown across locus 5. Once the loose soil was shoveled and sorted into buckets and wheelbarrows another pickpass was thrown along the S and W edges in order to level those out with the center of locus 5. PM: The N and NE edges of locus 5 were handpicked to level the walls with the rest of the locus . A 5th pickpass was run through locus 5. The soil level is indicating a change along the NE wall by the stump, but a new loci has yet to be reached across the surface of locus 5. Organic inclusions remain consistent. Pottery and terracotta increased slightly yet again. A few diagnostic pottery pieces have been excavated. Trench photos for locus 6, 7,8 and 9 have been taken. Photos for locus 6 have to be taken towards S instead of N due to obstruction of a tree. Loci 6,7,8,9 Opening Drawing (loci coordinates present on page 124)
