Description	This side wall of Vault Locus 12 has a sturdy construction consisting of both hewn and unhewn sandstone boulders and field stones of varying sizes laid primarily in a wet-mortar technique. There is also extensive use of snecking stones. No traces of wall stucco were detected either in situ or in the fill, suggesting that the wall was not faced. The recess spaces between the 2nd and 3rd arches of Vault Locus 12 are filled, however, with hewn dry-laid fieldstones. There are between six-to-seven irregular courses visible in the exposed portion of the wall; the thickness of the wall is unknown. Locus 31 serves as the architectural support for the north end of the arches supporting Vault Locus 12. It is possible that both Locus 31 and Locus 32 are facing walls bonded to a section of the combined wall created by the bonding of the East Boundary Wall (Locus 28) with the West Temenos Retaining Wall (Locus 6) at their lower courses (see also the discussions under Loci 6, 12, 28). The exact nature and function of this wall will require further examination of Vault Locus 12 and its relationship to both the West Cryptoporticus East and the Lower Temenos.
