Description

Locus 12 rests directly beneath Locus 10, south of Locus 6, and west of Locus 8. Locus 12 was opened to outline a collection of stones, with four larger stones of about 30 cm in length and 10 to 15 cm width, surrounded by a concentration of small stones, of about 5 cm. There is a high concentration of stones along the southern wall of the locus, extending into the bulk wall. A linear formation of larger stones is present along the western edge of this locus, extending from the northern into the southern edge. There is a packing of smaller stones for the totality of the southernmost meter, but this concentration of stones peters out, leaving the northeastern half of the locus somewhat bare. Only small stones, measuring approximately 5 centimeters, were found in this area of the locus. The soil in this locus is a compact and crumbly clay deposit. Locus 12 was not excavated, but solely opened as a means of outlining a stone formation present to the west of the linear stone formation outlined by Locus 8. The locus was cleaned using brushes though, and the loose soil and dust generated during this cleaning was collected in dustpans and sorted into buckets. Locus 12 is present in the interior space of the newly discovered building ETAP1 excavated in T108. As such, it abuts Locus 8. Since this feature is not seen as extending into Locus 6, it isn’t possible to confidently categorize it prior to further excavation. This feature could be debris from the eastern wall of ETAP1, or possibly an internal feature of the building.
