Angelo and two other men continued to explore the level of tile fall in G-I 36- {information not provided} to see if it continued to rise toward the east and in the hope of finding more banquet frieze fragments and gorgon fragments to complete those found earlier. Tile stratum 30-35 cm below topsoil surface. Very heavy concentration of tiles noted in G-I 35- {information not provided} . Tiles piled right on top of each other, as if simply dumped.
Meanwhile, three other men continued to clear topsoil stratum in 41-45 E-I down to level of pavement of north side of building.
An area cleared down to top of tile fall in 36 GHI (see for rough top view of tile fall concentration). Area cleared. Impression that tiles simply dumped in great quantity reinforced.
Stony topsoil rises to north; in I, tile stratum begins ca. 30-35 cm below
topsoil surface. Closer to surface in G and H.
Proceeded to lift tiles with trowels.

Banquet frieze fragment: diner, arm, pillow behind back
Shortly after gorgon (see ) found, the three men in this section of trench set to cleaning brush and topsoil to north of existing Trench 19. To be an extension of T19 in order to trace tile fall down over hill to north.

- 44 I (edge of H)
- ca. 8 meters from north wall, i.e., almost a meter further north than the others found earlier
- ca. 32 cm below topsoil surface

Gorgon head
The position of the last find ( 19720100 ) makes it appear that the line of debris from the building destruction extends further northward from the north wall as it goes eastward.
Another strong concentration of tiles noted 36-38 F G H, sloping downhill from north to south, toward the north wall.

Again, Angelo cleared down to top of tile fall in GHI 36-38 before beginning to remove tiles. Small gap (ca. 1/2 meter to 1/3 meter) between this tile concentration and last one noted ( ) makes it appear to have been a separate dumping of debris from the building to the north after it was destroyed.
Fragments of ridgepole tiles -- one with a design -- in addition to some which came out on Saturday.
Tile concentration seems to peter out before 38th meter line reached, although a tile fall still evident, particularly in the second half of H and I. Concentration seems {no conclusion to sentence} .

Pan tile fragment with spiral letter
Two joining banquet frieze fragments were found in 37 I: upper left corner to bottom of skirt of serving woman. Found on edge "against" wall of trench -- note that it is in line with gorgon found in 44 I (Find #5, p. 123) -- again giving the impression that the debris "line" is going further north from the north
wall as it continues eastward. The greater concentration of tiles in I as we continue eastward also gives this impression.
