Two men, one of them Angelo, continued clearing down through layer of tile fall in grids 30-32 E-G; stone concentration north of cut noted earlier because more scattered, tiles frags, frags of red vase (find no. 12, p. 45 found among stones.  Frags of large pithos continued to come out, including almost complete bottom.  Also strawberry box (2) of bucchero frags 31 G, F and more frags of banquet frieze.

N.B. from same level as red vase fragment.  Frag of iron with carbon on it.  Some evidence of burning on tiles removed, but not mjch.  3 tiles with finger print noted and discarded.

.  *Problem in obtaining a profile as the  gorgons (finds no. 9, p. 69 ABI and no. 10, p. 71 ABI ) were found half in the wall of what was to have been the dike originally which necessitated their removal and the taking of the profile further east.

Afternoon.  Continued to explore the layer of tile fall down to a level of ca. 50 cm below topsoil surface in 31-32 F-H; while three men continued removing hard stoney topsoil in 33-35 D-H.  Large quantity of tile frags removed in 31-32 F-H, along with some rock.  Dike to be left of 35 cm in 31 A-I to obtain a profile.  (Profile GHI actually obtained in 31-32 GHI p. 81 ABI ).  4 wheelbarrows of tile fragments discarded.  1 box of impasto pot sherds; 2 strawberry boxes of red and bucchero finer pottery.

Sketch plan: T19 D-I 30-32. .  [North wall of building.  Cut made through stone concentration.  Apparently only dumped fill from debris of destroyed north wall, intermixed with some tile and coarse impasto fragments.  Area in which 77 gorgon antifixes found ca. 7 m from north wall, at depths from ca. 25-55 cm below topsoil surface (5 in grid 31).  Banquet frieze frags, 12 of which join to nearly complete one plaque.  Forest-slope.  Downhill toward the north.  Tile frags intermixed with impasto, bucchero, and buccheroid pottery sherds.   Heavy tile fall ca. 25-55 cm below topsoil surface.)
