Work continued in both Locus 11 and 12 . In Locus 11 , hand picks and trowels used to follow back the 10cm cut/sounding already achieved in the northern 60-80cm strip of Locus 11 . Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench in buckets. Several roots and a few small stones 5-7cm removed with the soil. In Locus 12 , hand picks and trowels used to lower the elevation towards that of Locus 4 in the north and Locus 11 in the south. As noted yesterday, stones are emerging in the northern meter, with a length of 10-20cm, being better defined today. At their current level of visibility they appear to align with the stone feature in Locus 4 . Locus 12 is heavily included with roots from the three large stumps still present on its surface. Soil sorted and removed from the trench in buckets. In Locus 11 a spindle whorl fragment and fragment of vitrifying terra cotta recovered.

Locus 11

One bucket from Locus 11 sieved, no artifacts found. In Locus 12 as the stones are being revealed some larger ones 40-60cm in length appearing and overall they look more and more in line with those of Locus 4 . A fragment of vitrified terra cotta recovered from Locus 12 .

Locus 12

In Locus 11 , several patches of small, grey, deteriorating rock encountered as well as small flecks of carbon. In the western two meters by one and a half meter currently exposed in Locus 11 , the soil has turned from the light brown-yellowish soil to a primarily yellowish soil. The yellowish soil appears also to be deteriorating rock, mottled with the grey deteriorating rock, carbon, and terra cotta. Artifacts are present within it. In the eastern two meters the soil remains primarily light brown-yellowish, with artifacts too present within it. Where the trench has been leveled 10cm down, material is also still present at that elevation. One bucket from Locus 12 sieved, five fragments of terra cotta, each less than a centimeter in length, recovered. In Locus

11 , a fragment of coil made pottery, broken in excavation, recovered as well as a possibly diagnostic bone fragment.

Locus 11

One bucket from Locus 11 sieved, a fragment of pottery 2cm in length recovered. In Locus 12 , pottery, bone, and terra cotta found in small concentrations. In Locus 11 small concentrations of terra cotta and bone found, with medium

amounts of pottery recovered. Another bucket from Locus 11 sieved, one fragment of worn pottery 1cm in length recovered. Locus 12 bucket sieved, bucchero rim fragment less than a centimeter in length recovered. In the eastern portion of Locus 11 , the 10cm cut has been pulled back to about 75cm from the southern baulk wall, while in the western area it is about a meter and a half from the south baulk wall. Artifacts continue to be found in medium concentrations. One bucket sieved, no artifacts recovered, from Locus 11 . A fragment of burnt bone found in the western sector of Locus 11 .

Locus 11

In Locus 12 definition of the rocks in the northern section continued revealing stones loosely packed and varying in length from 20-60cm.

One bucket sieved, two small fragments of pottery, one 2cm in length, the other 0.8cm in length, recovered from Locus 12 . A bucket from Locus 11 sieved, no artifacts recovered. A fragment of vitrified terra cotta also recovered from Locus 11 .

Locus 11

In Locus 12 , the rocks have been defined, so work moved southward to the southern two by three meters to level down to the elevation of Locus 11 . One bucket sieved, no artifacts recovered. Simultaneously to the work in Locus 12 , excavation resumed in T 63 which has remained dormant since 10 July 2014 in order to see whether the stone feature in Locus 4 and Locus 12 continues eastward. In Locus 11 , a diagnostic bone fragment and an

amorphous fragment of bronze recovered.

Locus 11

PM

Resumed work in Locus 11 and 12 . In Locus 11 the last part of the eastern meter leveled all the way to the southern baulk wall and the western two meters are level to about 1m north of the southern baulk. Soil included with a small concentration of roots and small stones as well as artifacts in medium concentration. In Locus 12 handpicks are used to level the southern two by three meters down to the level of Locus 11 at approximately 10cm intervals. Several more rocks, 20-30cm in length, are emerging in northwestern sector of Locus 12 , south of the linear stone feature and possibly associated with the three rocks in the eastern baulk wall of

Locus 11 . Many roots included in Locus 12's soil matrix and a small concentration of artifacts found. In Locus 11 , a fragment of vitrified terra cotta recovered.

Locus 11

A short rain storm delayed work for about 30 minutes. Trench tarped during rain and excavateable when the rain stopped. Because rain may still be imminent, work restricted to only leveling in Locus 11 . Locus 11 has been dropped 10cm except for in the southwestern corner. Soil removed with hand picks and trowels, sorted into buckets. Small concentrations of pottery and terra cotta recovered. In examination of the Locus 12 pottery box, one fragment of iron sheet found.
