1 August 2023 AM Closing trench drawings were completed, including an opening and closing drawing of Locus 37. A section drawing of the 174 E line baulk wall and a closing trench drawing were completed on millimeter paper. Closing elevations were taken.

Opening and closing coordinates Locus 37: NW: 175.77 E / 65.90 S NE: 177 E / 65.80 S SE: 177 E / 66.10 S SW: 175.87 E / 66.23 S

Opening elevations Locus 37: NW: 26.50 m AE NE: 26.39 m AE SE: 26.44 m AE SW: 26.48 m AE

Locus 37 is the large carbon deposit found covered by Locus 33. The carbon deposit is a possible continuation of the carbon deposit excavated as Locus 30. The carbon deposit is 1.16 m in length and 0.15 m in width in its widest section and 0.10 m wide in its narrowest extent.

Locus 37 Munsell designation: 7.5 YR 2.5/1 - Black

Locus 37 was not excavated and remains in situ.

Closing locus elevations were taken.

Closing elevations Locus 24: NW: 26.66 m AE NE: 26.62 m AE SE: 26.45 m AE SW: 26.58 m AE

The pinkish brown soil of Locus 24 was removed and the elements of tile fall were removed, The removal of Locus 24 revealed a continuation of the depression found in the east of the trench and immediately east of Locus 24 in T103. The depression is 1.20 m wide before crossing the 176 E line of the trench. The northern edge of the depression is 3.71 m from the northern edge of the workshop floor surface. The coordinates and elevations of the depression on its top curving surface are the following:

NW: 176.17 E / 65.13 S, 26.45 m AE NE1: 176.25 E / 64.08 S, 26.42 m AE NE2: 176.79 E / 64.50 S, 26.31 m AE

The low point of the depression is 26.35 m AE. The depression is a part of the same depression excavated as Locus 10 which measures 1.54 m in length from the 66 S line.

Closing elevations Locus 26: NW: 26.39 m AE NE: 26.44 m AE SE: 26.71 m AE SW: 26.69 m AE

The southern 0.61 m of Locus 26 were not excavated in the 2023 season. The excavated portion was removed to lift the carbon deposit of Locus 30. The closing elevations of the two mid points of Locus 26 where excavation occurred are the following:

NW2: 174 E / 66.98 S, 26.39 m AE NE2: 175.30 E / 66.90 S, 26.50 m AE

Closing elevations Locus 33: NW: 26.37 m AE NE1: 26.44 m AE NE2: 26.45 m AE SE1: 26.40 m AE SE2: 26.38 m AE

Locus 33 was removed in the 2023 season. The layer partially filled the depression found underlying Locus 24.

Closing elevations Locus 36: NW: 26.39 m AE NE: 26.42 m AE SE: 26.41 m AE SW: 26.30 m AE

Excavation in Locus 36 was arbitrarily paused due to time constraints in the 2023 season. The layer remains an olive brown with heavily compacted clay throughout. Small amounts of pottery and bone continued to be found while cleaning the locus for photos.

PM Work was paused in T26 until presunrise closing photos could be taken.
