Description |
Locus 37 is dark, heavily carbon-included soil with inclusions of carbonized wood. The locus abuts the 177 E line with T103. The locus lies underneath Locus 33 at the bottom of the circular depression beneath Locus 33 and 24. The carbon deposit is 1.16 m in length and 0.15 m in width in its widest section and 0.10 m wide in its narrowest extent. It may be a continuation of the carbon deposit that was excavated as Locus 30. The carbon deposit is possibly a wooden beam that burned during the destruction of the OC2/Workshop. Like Locus 30, it is close to the tile fall and its size and width suggest that it may have been a component of the structure’s roof. A sample of carbonized wood was saved as Sample #5. Locus 37 was not excavated due to time constraints in the 2023 season and remains in situ. |
