Description |
Locus 31, a dark grayish and black soil of medium compaction with small stones frequently included in the soil, was exposed, but not excavated, in the 2023 season. When first declared, it was seen to be present laterally between the tile fall and plaster-included soil of Locus 24. When the tile fall and plaster-included soil of Locus 24 was removed, a heavily carbon-included, dark brownish black soil was revealed throughout the entire locus. The layer slopes downward in a semicircular depression that extends into T103. Small stones were frequently included in the layer, possibly functioning as a cobbling, paving, or surface preparation layer. It is possible that Locus 31 is equal to this layer revealed under Locus 24, but further excavation is needed to determine their relationship. |
