Cleared the last of Locus 1 soil in the central area of the trench among the rocks and roots. At the same time, baulk walling done along the southern and eastern wall and the northern and western walls adjoining CA 70 and CA 73 removed. All materials recovered will be collected as Locus 1 finds. Some small fragments of terra cotta and pottery being found. Also recovered two associated fragments of Medieval pottery.

Locus 1
All loose soil sorted and cleaned from the trench. Locus 2 declared open over the whole trench, and opening photographs taken. Opening Elevations for Locus 2 :

Pick pass done in the western most meter of the trench.
Locus 2 is a medium brown yellowish soil, designated 7.5YR, 4/2, Brown, which is loosely packed with a few roots and rocks (5-15cm). Pottery and terra cotta being found at relatively high frequency. During sorting, also recovered a pseudomorph of bronze, but the bronze was so deteriorated that there was no artifact to make a special find. Second pick pass done in the easternmost meter. Large pieces of terra cotta turned up by the pick pass, as well as several (3-10cm). Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench, consistent with Locus 2 . Many fragments of terra cotta and pottery recovered, as well as bone. In cleaning recovered an antefix attachment fragment.

Last of the soil from the pick pass in the eastern meter cleaned from the trench. During cleaning two more pieces of worked bone found with an ancient break, seemingly associated with Find 3 from the morning.

Locus 2
Another pick pass done in the western half of the trench along the area with trees and stumps. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench, consistent with Locus 2 . Terra cotta and pottery being found during cleaning, as well as bone. Pick pass done again in the westernmost meter. Soil consistent with Locus 2 , sorted and cleaned from the trench. Terra cotta and pottery found in sorting, but very little bone in the west. Several rocks were encountered during the pick pass, and possibly may have some relation to the rock feature in the northeastern corner of CA 70, though the rock were not uncovered in cleaning so it is difficult to definitively say. Pick pass done in the eastern most meter of the trench. Soil consistent with Locus 2 , sorted and cleaned from the trench.
Many artifacts present in the eastern meter, including high concentrations of terra cotta, pottery, and bone. Recovered a piece of ridged pottery and a notched pan tile fragment.
