We began the morning by clearing the extension are of organic material, terracotta, and stones.  We also took advantage of the morning light and took more pictures of the rock feature (Southern half of trench).  We extended the trench to the Master Grid (East baseline) on the Southern side, and then extended it 1 meter further, and on the East side 1 meter from the master grid.

Pictures were taken of Locus, opening of Locus 4, extension (Locus 4= Locus 1 of Main trench).

In the extension there are many stumps, one very large one, stump A.  Stump E and D are small and b and c are really groups of stumps. There is also a rather large rock below stump A.

In the Northeastern corner of the extension is another group of stumps, which make up one large stump.  It pushes our NE corner slightly down.

One pickpass was made in the extension.  The soil was medium  brown soil- topsoil with root rot in the SE.  There were lots of rocks and terracotta from terracotta dump from previous excavation years.

There was also root rot near the stump D and Stump A and in the center of the extension in general.

No more pickpasses for the day- half day for Palio.
