Work commenced in three loci. In Locus 4 and Locus 5 the level is being lowered to that of CA 76 and CA 79 where a hard packed carbon filled soil has been encountered. In Locus 8 , the sounding, the tile feature, of which four layers have been removed, is being defined in order to take photographs. In Locus 4 and 5 little material recovered, except some terra cotta, pottery, and vitrified terra cotta. In Locus 8 terra cotta and pottery found, as well as a fragment of iron broken into several pieces.

27.04m A.E.
Excavation within the large rock feature which runs south into CA 72 from CA 73 before turning westward carried out by and documented in ARR V (CA 73) simultaneously.
While leveling in Locus 8 , a second fragment of iron recovered.
Find 2: Iron Fragment

27.14m A.E.
In Locus 4 carbon included in the soil, especially beneath the area where the stump on the baulk wall was removed. In Locus 5 little carbon found but the ceramics recovered are highly burned. In Locus 8 , soil is heavily included with carbon and one flake of bronze found, collected in bulk. A fragment of vitrified terra cotta, broken in several pieces.
Find 3: Vitrified Terra Cotta Fragment

The tile feature crossing Locus 8 running roughly north to south and including two cover tile fragments, one of which is oriented as it would like on a roof, the other of which is inverted, was photographed. Both tiles were removed following photographs and because they are preserved to their full length were collected. There are additionally more tiles below those which were removed, which will currently be left.

Because the fragments of cover tile look like they might possibly have been deposited on the surface, work is being paused in Locus 8 to lower its surrounding Locus 7 to the same level. Locus 7 incorporates the curvilinear feature of primarily tile mixed with some rocks which will be removed and diagnostic pieces documented. Several fragmentary pan and cover tile fragments, none of which preserve a full width of length, removed, as well as a large pithos rim in several fragments.

Work simultaneously continues in Locus 4 and Locus 5 where the soil remains consistent. Small concentrations of terra cotta, pottery, bone, slag, and vitrified terra cotta recovered. In Locus 4 a stone removed which might possibly have been used for burnishing.

One bucket sieved from Locus 5 , no artifacts recovered. During leveling in Locus 5 , fragment of worked antler found.

In Locus 7 the soil is consistent but loosely packed. Many fragments of bone are being recovered as well as pottery and terra cotta. No carbon has yet been recovered in Locus 7 but a few patches of deteriorating rock have been encountered. The southern half meter of Locus 5 has been leveled to the height of CA 73 and the same hard packed soil encountered in CA 72. Work
continued in Locus 5 pulling back to the rock feature running through it. One bucket sieved and no artifacts recovered. During leveling one fragment of flaked chert found.

In Locus 4 leveling continued. Soil remains consistent other than where it is more claylike beneath the former stumps roots system. One bucket sieved and no artifacts recovered.
One bucket sieved from Locus 7 and a fragment of vitrified terra cotta recovered. One bucket sieved from Locus 5 , no artifacts recovered.

As leveling continues in Locus 7 to achieve the level of Locus 8 's sounding a hard packed soil mottled with carbon, pottery, and terra cotta encountered. Work continued pulling back from that level. Terra cotta, pottery, and bone being found along with small concentrations of vitrified terra cotta and slag. In Locus 4 the hard packed mottled soil has been uncovered in
the southwestern corner and leveling continues immediately to the east, especially still around the stump's roots. No material recovered yet in Locus 4 .
In Locus 5 continued leveling back from where the hard packed mottled soil has been uncovered. Several tree roots removed and beneath them stones between 5-10cm and 10-20cm in length found embedded within the hard packed soil. During cleaning in Locus 4 a fragment of worked antler recovered.

Leveling completed in Locus 5 between the boundary with CA 76 and the rock feature running through Locus 5 . Leveling continued in both Locus 4 and Locus 8 in both cases to reveal the mottled hard packed soil. Only small concentrations of material recovered. Work finished for the day by clipping roots. One final bucket sieved from Locus 4 and a fragment of creamware recovered. One final bucket sorted from Locus 7 sieved and a fragment of slag recovered.
