Daily opening photographs and elevations take:

NW Corner: 25.14 m A.E.

NE Corner: 25.02 m A.E.

SE Corner: 25.10 m A.E.

SW Corner: 25.13 m A.E.

Pick pass begun in the western meter and a half. Soil shoveled into buckets and sorted into the wheelbarrow. The soil remains consistent, medium brown to yellowish in color and claylike in consistency, except in the northeastern corner which is becoming a yellow soil mottled with flecks of red, black, and white in a very small patch. The soil is carbon included and still heavily packed with roots. Pottery found at a high frequency, while terra cotta and bone found at a midlevel frequency. Many artifacts show high levels if preservation and some pottery is 5-15 cm in length. Unless they preserve an exceptionally large size or particular shape, slag and vitrified terra cotta is

being collected as bulk finds. Second pick pass initiated at the western edge of the trench. Soil is becoming lighter brown and more yellowish. It is still heavily included with root and carbon as well as a high concentration of artifacts. Burned born and amorphous bronze found, collected as bulk finds. Third pick pass initiated at the western edge of the trench. In the first meter and a half, a potential stone tool recovered.

Locus 15

After the pick pass in the eastern meter and a half the yellowish soil is being revealed almost everywhere, but as of yet is not present in the western meter and a half. Fourth pick pass initiate at the western edge, revealing some patches of yellowish and grayish soil which looks like deteriorating stone.

In a bucket sorted from the southeastern quadrant, a fragment of a spindle whorl with a modern break recovered.

After the eastern meter and a half picked, the yellowish soil revealed everywhere. Picking now restricted to the western meter and a half to reveal it over the entire area which already has some of it present. The frequency of artifacts found is slightly diminishing as the yellow soil is revealed. The concentration of roots and carbon remains high. After one more pick pass, the yellowish soil revealed across the entire extent of the trench. Baulk walls trimmed and all finds collected as Locus 15 material. During baulk cleaning, a fragment of the spout of the lateral sima recovered.

of Locus 16 .

Locus 16 is a yellow brown, claylike soil included with carbon and roots of a smaller diameter. Three large rocks are present in the top of the locus at its western side. First pick pass across the trench. Materials including terra cotta, pottery, bone and slag being found, but in much smaller concentrations than in Locus 15 . While carbon is present throughout the locus, it is most heavily concentrated in the northwestern quadrant. The three large rocks in the western side of the trench removed during the trenchÂ’s second pick pass. Third pick pass completed over the whole area of Locus 16 . During shoveling a bronze fragment with curving shape revealed in situ as well as a rocchetto fragment from the wheelbarrow during sorting a bucket from the northwestern quadrant.

Fourth pick pass initiated in the western meter and a half. Carbon and material continue to be included within the soil packed which remains as yellowish brown claylike soil. While sorting buckets from pick pass three in the eastern quadrant a fragment of iron recovered and collected as a bulk find. While shoveling in the western sector, a fragment of frieze plaque cavetto (with modern breaks) recovered. More fragments will hopefully be located and added to the find. As with the pottery which is of the preserved to a length of 5-20 cm in length, some of the bones (like Find 9) are also preserved to a greater length than usual, 5-10 cm. All artifacts except the iron found preserve a high level of presentation as well. After soil cleaned, baulk walling done quickly to prepare for tomorrow morningÂ’s photographs. Baulk trim finds collected with Locus 16 .
