Work continued in Locus 14 , leveling down to the same level as the height of the T 62 in 2014. To begin with, the trench retriangulated off the new baseline of 96 E shot by the total station (trench coordinates corrected in Trench Layout). Pickaxe used to break up the soil, which is being shoveled in to buckets and sorted in the wheelbarrow. The soil is a dark brown humus layer heavily included with organic material. Small, worn fragments of terra cotta and pottery recovered at a low frequency. When Locus 14 leveled, baulk walls cleaned and trench floor scraped in order to declare the next locus. Photographs taken and Locus 15 declared open from the western wall to the western most stones of the well feature. Closing elevations of Locus 14 and opening elevations of Locus 15 taken:

Closing Elevations of Locus 14 :

NW Corner: 25.25 m A.E.

NE Corner: 25.36 m A.E.

Locus 15 is a medium brown soil which is hard packed except under the Locus 14 soil due to being tarped and moist over the past year and now sun dried over the last few days since the tarp had been removed. The first meter at the west pick axed and soul cleared using shovels into buckets, which are then sorted in the wheelbarrow. Small, warn fragments of terra cotta, pottery, and bone

recovered. Soil heavily included with roots. Once the loose dirt cleaned a pick pass done in the next 1.5 m from the west. Soil removed with shovels and sorted into the wheelbarrow. A large coarseware rim recovered from the northern edge. The last 20 cm up to the circular feature pick axed, creating a baulk wall at the western most edge of the well feature. After the soil cleaned, pick axing begun again in the western most meter, repeating the same procedure until a full pick pass completed. Many fragments of carbon included in the soil, as well as medium concentration of terra cotta, pottery, and bone. As the hard packed, dried out soil, has been removed the soil has become claylike and much more easily pick axed and shoveled. Roots continue to be heavily included within the soil pack. Third pick pass initiated at the western edge of the trench. Materials, roots, and carbon found in high concentrations. The artifacts enjoy

a greater level of preservation, and some fragments of ceramic are 5-10 cm in length. While sorting buckets of soil from the second meter from the west, fragments of a spindle whorl recovered.

Fourth pick pass initiated beginning with the western edge of the trench. Soil remains consistent in color and consistency. Soil heavily included with roots and relatively well preserved artifacts. During bucket sorting in the wheelbarrow, a small fragment of shaped bronze recovered.

While the color and consistency of the soil remains the same, it has become even more carbon included. Soil still heavily included also with roots. Sixth pick pass completed. Pottery recovered continues to be preserved to lengths of 5-15 cm and is mostly impasto fabric. A fragment of slag, a molded rim fragment, and the bottom portion of the spindle whorl found this morning (with modern break, so collected with that find) recovered.
