Description Locus 18 represents the accumulated soil and architectural fragments likely dumped by the Bedoul while they were clearing their fields. This locus is full of a immense number of architectural fragments ranging from large column drums to a finely carved marble cornice. The locus was very close to the surface, and so full of architectural pieces that the soil seemed almost to simply filling the few cracks between the stones. The soil was a dark brown (Munsell 7.5 YR 4/3) loose silt and sand, but inclusions beyond architectural fragments were minimal. The Bedoul working in the trench, and particularly the foreman Mohammed Dakhilallah and Dakhilallah himself were quite convinced that this locus could be attributed to farming activities. Most likely, Locus 2, the main Nabataean east-west wall, and some of the Bedouin rubble walls would have defined an area beyond the boundaries of the fields where stones could be dumped. Because of the recent date of this dumping, it is phased to Stage 8, Phase XIV.
