Pick pass initiated in the northern two by two meter section of Locus 4 , the extension. Soil remains consistent with Locus 4 , a dark brown humus layer heavily included with organic debris, roots, and small stones (2-10cm). Soil sorted into buckets, small quantities of worn terra cotta and pottery recovered. After clearing completed, pick used to level down higher patches of soil left behind from the first picking done over the entirety of Locus 4 . Soil hand sorted into buckets, remains consistent with Locus 4 . Small concentrations of terra cotta and pottery found, as well as a fragment of modern glass. Another pick pass begun in the western part of the extension, moving northward in small sections due to possible impending rain. Soil hand sorted into buckets, remains consistent with Locus 4 and heavily

included with roots and small stones (2-10cm). Small concentrations of worn terra cotta and pottery, as well as a fragment of slag with modern breaks recovered.

Locus 4

When the pick pass was completed across the trench, a new medium brown, claylike, more loosely packed soil was revealed in the northern section of the extension (a 2x2m area); this soil has not yet been observed in the western section of the extension (a 1x3m area). To that end, picking resumed only in this area to hopefully uncover the new soil there. Soil turned over remains consistent with Locus 4 , hand sorted into buckets. Small concentrations of worn terra cotta and pottery recovered, but a soil change not yet detected. Two

fragments of slag found in the northwestern corner.

Locus 4

Another pick pass initiated across the southern portion of the extension, moving north in the western meter wide strip. As the southwestern corner cleaned, three more fragments of slag which attach to Find 1 from today recovered and reassociated.

Locus 4

Rain, which has been falling for the last 45 minutes, has restricted visibility of soil changes, therefore work is being halted.

Daily Totals:

Locus 4:

Terra cotta: 1/3 bowl

Pottery: 1/10 latte (25 fragments)
