We are still removing the tiles that were uncovered yesterday. The soil still has modern material in it. While troweling we uncovered a fragment of a loom weight (Find #1). We are now preparing to expand to the east of the north extension (Loci 10 and 11 ). We are doing this in order to get a better understanding of the feature in VT-2 which appears to extend into the west baulk of the north extension of VT-3. THis extension will be designated Locus 12 and it is characterized by a grayish brown soil with small rocks and organic material. There is also worn terracotta and pottery strewn throughout. It also contains modern material. The munsell designation is 10 YR 5/3 Brown.
We are now also extending 1 meter to the west on the north extension (loci 10 and 11 ). The purpose of this is to see if we can uyncover more of the feature in VT-2 and the western area of
Locus 11 . THis extension will be declared locus 13 and is characterized by a reddish brown soil with many small rocks and organic material. There is also modern debris in the soil. The munsell designation is 2.5Y 4/4 olive brown.

Began pick passes across the Locus . While sorting a rim fragment with red slip was uncovered (Find #3). Some of the terracotta recovered demonstrated evidence of vitrification (some pieces were saved with the baulk pottery).
We commenced a pick pass acrosds the Locus . A darker brown soil was uncovered through the trench and we are now troweling down the trench to level it in preparation for the declaration of a new locus. While troweling we uncovered a brick fragment (Find #2). While digging we seem to have uncovered a layer of burn in the north of Locus 13 . We will now begin to define its extent. The burn stretches across the northern half of Locus 13 . As it is modern we will now remove it so we can avoid contaminating the entirety of the new soil which has been exposed.
