A.M.

Opening elevations were taken.  For the remainder of the season, elevations will be recorded utilizing the designations employed in the 2004 season (see p. 9).  Opening elevations are:

  • A: 215 cm b.d.
  • B: 211 cm b.d.
  • C: 212 cm b.d.
  • D: 208 cm b.d.
  • E: 211 cm b.d.

After taking elevations, the middle third of the trench (going N-S) was picked and soil was sorted into buckets.  During sorting, a piece of slag was found, and later a second was too.

Soil remains extremely mottled.  Charcoal is heavy in the northeast corner, and appears to be extending toward the center of the trench.

P.M.

Soil from this morning's pick pass continued to be sorted into buckets.  During sorting, a piece of plaster with possible reed impressoins and an odd piece of terracotta were found.
