Pick pass done through entire area of sounding. Soil sorted and cleaned, soil consistent with Locus 3 and no material recovered. Having reached 20cm depth, and no material having been recovered, sounding closed. Prepared to open Locus 4 in patch of medium brown soil in the northeast corner. Drawing done of area of medium brown carbon included soil. Photos taken. Elevations taken:

Pick pass done over entire area of Locus 4 , 2-4cm deep. Locus 4 is a medium brown soil with carbon inclusions. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench, soil consistent with Locus 4 . Many rocks coming up, 4-6cm in size. Pick pass done again through whole area of Locus 4 . Soil cleaned and sorted, remains consistent with Locus 4 . Heavily carbon included. In cleaning discovered 3 special finds—loom weight fragments and two possibly associated pieces of coil made pottery.
Find 1: Loom weight fragments
Locus 4
8.68N/1.31W
27.87m A.E.
*Six pieces selected for drawing, 20-30 other small associated fragments.
Find 2: coil made pottery sherd
Locus 4
8.65N/1.42W
27.92m A.E.
Find 3: coil made pottery sherd
Locus 4
8.62N/1.56W
27.89m A.E.
On instruction of director decided to level and abandon Locus 4 and return to the sounding because of the so loosely packed soil. In leveling found two more coil made sherds.
Find 4: coil made pottery sherd
Locus 4
9.26N/1.52W
27.89m A.E.
Find 5: coil made pottery sherd
Locus 4
9.39N/1.56W
27.92m A.E.
Pick pass done in the sounding over the whole meter area. Soil sorted and cleaned, remains consistent with Locus 3 . Pick pass done again over area of sounding. Soil cleaned and sorted. Soil seems loosely packed in northern two meters than in the southern meter. Pick pass done in sounding across whole area. Soil cleaned and sorted. Consistent soil type with Locus 3 except for slightly more yellow concentrated in south meter. Pick pass done through sounding. Soil sorted and cleaned. Another pick pass done in sounding, soil sorted and cleaned. Soil consistent with Locus 3 . No material recovered.
PM
Pick pass done over whole meter sounding area. Dirt sorted and cleaned, soil type consistent with Locus 3 . Pick pass completed over whole area of sounding. Soil sorted and cleaned.
Pick pass again done through whole area of sounding. Soil sorted and cleaned. Soil type consistent with Locus 3 —yellow and white mottling. Some patches of white/grey clay coming up which seem to be sitting directly on top of rock. Many rocks being hit below surface, not yet revealed what size or extent. Another pick pass done, more rock being hit. Soil sorted and cleaned, consistent with Locus 3 . Pick pass done over whole area of sounding, soil sorted and cleaned. No material found and rocks appearing over most of the trench. Another pick pass done, soil sorted and cleaned from trench. Soil consistent with Locus 3 and many rocks appearing, probably bedrock. Two more passes done around the bedrock that has appeared to clean it up, soil sorted and cleared. Will continue defining bedrock with pick passes and troweling as necessary, with soil being sorted and cleaned. Soil consistent with Locus 3 , and no material found.
