Daily Log

We began the day by scraping down Locus 8 to get a clearer picture of the soil there. It appears that the soil in Locus 8 is the same as that in Locus 18 . Therefore, after we clean up the area covered by those two loci they will be declared a new locus. While scraping up Locus 18 we have begun to uncover pieces of carbon in the north western area of the locus. A darker soil has been uncovered across the entire span of loci 8 and 18 . This new soil will be declared Locus 22 . This locus is characterized by a darker brown mottled soil. There is carbon appearing in the soil. Its munsell designation is 10 YR 4/3 Brown.

Removed a large chunk of carbon (Find #1): Commenced a pick pass across the eastern most meter of Locus 22 . Almost no material has been found from the pick pass, however, the soil is still very dark and full of carbon. Near the western baulk we have found a small patch of what looks like heavily oxidized soil. It has a deep red color with a munsell designation of 5 YR 5/8 yellowish red.
Commenced a pick pass across the rest of the locus. We are still finding little material throughout.

Continued to pick across Locus 22 . Still uncovering little material but we are still finding carbon in the soil. While troweling a burnt piece of pottery was uncovered (Find #2). We are continuing to remove the Locus 22 soil.
