[85] 23 July 2019 AM The morning began with a pickpass in Locus 12 in the central 50cm. Work also began in Locus 9 with small handpicks and trowels in the northeastern corner. The soil remains a heavily compacted clay and soil mix that is light brown in color. Frequent inclusions of tile and small rocks, along with occasional flecks of carbon. In the northeast corner of the trench fragments of tile with possible preserved paint were recovered (Special Find #45, 46, 47, 48, 49). Possible painted tiles will be bulk found in the future.

The area of Locus 9 was scraped with trowels revealing that the carbon included layer extends to the west and abuts Locus 4. The same soil can be found everywhere except in the northeast corner of Locus 9 which remains a compacted light brown soil and clay mix.
[89] While troweling in the southwestern section of Locus 9, a diagnostic tooth was found (Special Find #50).

The western 50cm of Locus 12 was picked using a large pickaxe to remove the baked out clay from the surface of the locus. In the southwest corner of the locus a tile with possible pain was found (Special Find #51). While sorting the soil by hand into buckets a small fragment of bronze was found (Special Find #52).

An additional pickpass in the northwestern 50cm of Locus 12 was completed. Large amounts of plaster was recovered.
PM It was decided to scrape and level Locus 9 followed by the starting excavation in the sarbon filled layer of Locus 7. The soil of Locus 7 is a compacted clay-like dark brown soil with frequent inclusions of carbon and small rocks. The area was lowered with a small handpick revealing an area along the northern extent with compacted inclusions of red and brown churt while sorting a diagnostic bone was recovered (Special Find #54).
