The trench extension was cleared of leaves, plants, and other surface debris. The trench was laid out as follows:

Opening elevations and photos are taken for Locus 3 . Elevations points are labeled above on trench sketch.

Opening Elevations:

A (66E, 30S): 27.84 mAE

B (65E, 30S): 27.90 mAE

C (56E, 27S): 27.94 mAE

D (66E, 28S): 27.94 mAE

E (68E, 27S): 27.97 mAE

F (68E, 28S): 27.94 mAE

A pick pass was conducted along the northern meter of locus 3. The soil in locus 3 is consistent with that of locus 1; it is dark in color and is coming up primarily in large chunks. The soil is coarse and is populated by an ample number of medium and small sized rocks. There is also ample organic material in the soil; including roots and decaying material among other things. Some terracotta and pottery is being found. Larger chunks

of terracotta are being found than were found in locus 2. A pick pass is done in the western meter of the trench. The soil in this area is very full of roots, primarily small and medium size, possibly emanating from the tree cluster in the southwest corner of the trench. A pick pass is done of the northern meter, and the finer, yellowish, lighter soil, similar to that of Locus 2 is appearing throughout that area of the trench. Roots are still plentiful, but not in the abundance of the initial pick pass. Terracotta and pottery continues to be found. The new soil type is showing up in the very south, where a pick pass is done. Bone is found in this area, but additional hand picking is done to try and expose the new soil type. Excess soil is also now being taken down between the original trench and the extension, and baulk walling is done. In the west meter, a piece of slag (Special Find #1) is found. In the northern meter a tack (Special Find #2). Cleaning and maintenance of the extension floor is done.
