Rained most of last night. 50 cm cut in M-O/69 had to be abandoned due to wet soil. Although methodologically we had decided against moving through M-O/68-66 in topsoil cuts, but rather taking M-O/69/71 down to c. 80 cm range,t he wetness of the latter area has promoted change in method.
(20 cm b.s.)
- Taking 10 cm in M-O/68. Soil is dry enough to work reasonably. A second 10 cm. over same area started. Finds and soil parallel 10-30 cm in meters M-O/70-71 (pps. 11-13). 30 cm b.s. cut completed in M-O/68-69. Soil is drying up. Finds in these cuts are as usual. Soil is at completion of 30 cm b.s. just shifting to the lighter brown. In meters N-O/68-69 heavy root concentrations from stumps - these lie over and in a lens of decomposed rock. This lens has no diagnostic value and is being removed where encountered.
No bucchero - no redware - no finds

- 2 10 cm cuts taken in M-O/69 to depth of c. 45-50 cms below surface completed soil is mixture of decomposed rock lens noted above and a medium dark soil found under stumps/roots N-O/67 and a lighter soild in M/69. Encountered soil too wet for excavation. Tile and pottery finds continue as before. Very infrequent plaster finds and no noticeable charcoal.
- 15 cm cut initiated in M-O/68. Completed. Soil in M/N-68 is verging on a lighter brown ... O/69 is heavily flecked with light grey decomposed rock from lens. mentioned above. Finds are very infrequent. Left at this level to dry.
- 15 cm cut in M-O/67 initiated to c. 25-30 cm b.s. Not finished
......other notes: no significant plaster amounts ... no charcoal. O/68-69 has decomposed stone, some of which looks like sling stones ... NM II, pp. 17 .
