A.M. in magazzino
tile - 1 1/2 cassetta
pottery
1. Potential ridge pole w/ statue base in M/64-65 was examined and found to be pan tiles. Cut to 30 cm. b.s. was completed in M/64-65.
pottery - 12 frags
2. Tile spread in O-N/67-66 (see NM II, pps. 143-5 ) was mestied further to expose any tile in M/67-66. tile in small fragments is coming out and will need further cleaning to determind extent. Small quantity of pottery removed in cleaning is mixed impasto with some bucchero and orange ware.
tile - 1 1/3 cassetta
pottery - 1 1/2 latte mixed
3. Another c. 5 cm cut to ~ 80-85 cm was started in M-O/68. The soil is again a well mixed (i.e. disturbed)
medium dark brown with large quantities of corroded plaster and tile. Some pockets of charcoal were also recovered. The cut as exposed (still incomplete) is dominated by many pithos fragments starting at c. 80 cm b.s., in particular rim and apparently base fragments. The pithos appears to be centered in N/68 with spreads to O and in lesser quantities M/68. The soil in M/68 is redder than elsewhere, mostly due to corroded red schist stone and also corroded tile.
