[107] 25 July 2019 AM The morning began with a pickpass in Locus 13 to lower the level of the soil and investigate the possible continuation of Locus 6 to the east. The soil of Locus 13 is a dark brown clay like soil with frequent small red, white, and black inclusions. The first pickpass revealed a darker soil in the eastern extent of the locus with more frequent inclusions of vitrifying terracotta, tile, and plaster.

Work was also begun in Locus 12 to determine the extent of the plaster. Trowels and handpicks are being used to pull back from the known extent of the plaster to the south. Thile troweling, a diagnostic bone was recovered (Special Find #62).

While sorting soil by hand into buckets two fragments of slag were recovered along with fragments of vitrified terracotta. A third fragment of slag was found in the same area (Special Find #63, #64, #65).

A second pickpass was completed across Locus 13 revealing tile, possible painted tiles, vitrified terracotta, and small amounts of pottery. While troweling, a diagnostic bone and a sherd of diagnostic pottery composed of a ridge and a rim were recovered (Special Find #66 and Special Find #67).

As cleaning continued, a small slag droplet was recovered (Special Find #68).

Work also continued in Locus 12, bringing the southern baulk wall down to see how far the plaster surface from the locus extends. In tidying the baulk wall, a small round piece of slag was recovered (Special Find #69).

PM Cleaning continues in Locus 13 to better define soil color and consistency changes ahead of declaring new loci. In troweling some unusual terracotta was recovered (Special Find #70).

Photos were taken of terracotta tiles in situ in Locus 13. Trowels are being used to define the emerging burn layer/carbon-included soil that began in the NE corner of Locus 13.
