Since all topsoil was removed and the new, yellowish-brown, claylike soil was exposed across the trench, except in the two northern corners, Locus 1 was closed and Loci 2 and 3 were opened. Closing photos and elevations for Locus 1 /Opening photos and elevations for Loci 2 and 3 were taken.

Locus 2 encompasses all of the trench except for the NE corner; the clearly delineated rock feature is Locus 3 . The rocks of Locus 3 form a near right angle and run northward. They appear to form another right angle in the northern baulk of the trench and likely is continuous with the rock features that run across T-72 and T-73, although the floor of T-73 is at a slightly higher elevation and so this cannot be determined. Locus 3 will not be excavated for the time being. Instead, work will focus on Locus 2 .

In the NW corner of the trench and in Locus 2 , there is another small cluster of rocks, but it is not yet clear if these are clearly delineated. Therefore, we will begin with a pick pass of Locus 2 , working out

from the rocks in the NW corner, in order to determine if these rocks extend across the entire trench or are delineated. The soil of Locus 2 is yellowish brown and claylike. It is much denser than the soil of Locus 1 and contains far fewer small rocks. Soil is hand-sorted directly into buckets in the trench. Very few tile fragments or pottery have been found, although there are some larger tile fragments and slightly more pottery than in the previous locus. No bone has yet been found. While picking in the southernmost part of the trench, a sherd of incised bucchero (Find #1) was found. Closing elevations for the day were taken.
