Photos taken of the circular feature for photogrammetry as well as documentation. Illustration of the interior profile at the circular feature. Daily elevations of Locus 19 measured:
NW Corner: 23.34m A.E.
NE Corner: 23.54m A.E.
SE Corner: 23.40m A.E.
SW Corner: 23.45m A.E.
Work begun on the exterior of the circular feature with small hand picks in order to further removed exterior stone. One stone ~30cm in length, removed from the western face of the feature. Another stone, ~20cm in length, removed from the southwest face. A stone, ~25cm in length, removed from directly below the previous. Another stone from the southwestern face removed from directly above
the previous two; it is ~40cm in length, but it has been fractured and removed in multiple pieces. A stone, ~30cm in length, removed from directly below the previous. Two stone removed from the northwestern face--one on top of the other and approximately 20-30cm in length. A third small stone, ~10cm in length, removed just below the two previous. Soil removed in buckets and sorted in the wheelbarrow. Soil remains medium brown, moist, and claylike. So far no materials recovered from the soil packed in amongst the stones of the exterior face of the circular feature. Stone removed from the northwest face, ~35cm in length. Another stone removed from just below the previous, ~50cm in length. Soil removed and sorted in wheelbarrow.
Half a stone, ~25cm in length, removed from the western face. A stone, ~35cm, removed from
just below the previous. A stone, ~20cm in length, removed from just south of the previous. A small stone, ~10cm, removed from just below. Two small stones, ~10cm, removed from the northwest. A stone, ~15cm, removed from the northwest. A stone, ~15cm, removed from just east of the previous two. Several 5cm stones removed from various locations along the face of the feature. A stone, ~45cm in length, removed from the northwestern face of the feature. Two small stones, ~10cm, removed from around the previous one.
Work refocused on removing soil from Locus 19 --within the circular feature. Soil removed with a small hand pick. Soil remains medium brown, moist, and claylike, with pockets of deteriorating stone. Terra cotta fragments and bone recovered. Large fragments of terra cotta tile still visible in situ under the large stones present in the interior of the
circular feature. Stone, ~15cm, removed from the interior of the circular feature from amongst the terra cotta fragments. A stone, ~40cm in length, removed from the interior of the circular feature. The large fragment of terra cotta pan tile removed along with other small fragments of terra cotta. More fragments still in situ. A stone, ~15cm in length, removed from the interior of the feature. A fragment of cavetto present below the large stone in the interior of the feature. The large stone is in the northern half of the circular feature and is approximately 60cm in length. Another large stone, ~30cm, is present in the southern portion of the circular feature. Soil remains included with deteriorating stone. The concentration has again increased in quantity. Three large fragments of terra cotta tile removed.
A large stone, ~40cm in length, removed from the interior of the circular feature from below the large stone taking up the northern half of the feature. Along with large amounts of terra cotta, pottery, and bone have been recovered in small quantities. The pottery recovered is well preserved and approximately 10cm in length. The large stone, ~30cm in length, that was present in the southern portion of the circular feature was removed. The large terra cotta tile with flange (not cavetto as previously thought) removed from under the very large stone in the northern half of the circular feature. Terra cotta brick fragment recovered (Find 1). Soil cleaned into buckets and sorted in the wheel barrow.

A stone, ~20 in length, removed from the interior of the circular feature. Another stone, ~15cm in length, removed from the interior of the feature. The very large stone that was in the entire northern half of the feature was removed from the interior and is actually ~70-80cm in length. Another stone, ~40cm in length, removed from just
below the very large stone. Several small, ~5-10cm, stones removed from the interior of the feature. A fragment of pietra fetida recovered from the interior of the circular feature.

In order to remove more soil from the interior of the circular feature, more stones will be removed from the exterior. One thin, flat 15cm in length stone removed from the northwestern edge. A large 45cm rock removed from the northern edge. A small 15cm stone removed from the northern edge. A 35cm stone removed from the southwestern edge and a 30cm stone removed from below it. Beside both of those stones to the north, a 60cm stone removed. Two 5-10cm stones removed from the southwestern edge. A 40cm rock removed from the western edge. From just north of it a 35cm stone removed. Removal of exterior stones halted to return to the lowering of the Locus 19 soil of the interior. Simultaneously, the upper courses of the circular feature are being defined via leaf trowel.
While excavating the interior of the circular feature a large fragment of worked stone revealed. It
is being defined for further examination and it is unclear its size or purpose at this point. It appears--as of now--to be a cube shape with a curved dressing on one side. There seems to be a second piece that is next to the worked stone, but probably has an ancient break that was once attached. Two stones, ~10-15cm in length, removed from the southwestern exterior profile of the circular feature. A stone (~15cm x 12cm x 11cm) removed from just north of the worked stone (still in situ); it too appears to be worked with two possible chisel marks.

Soil remains medium brown, moist, and claylike as well as heavily included with carbon. The ancient break in the worked stone no longer appears to be a break, but an intentional cut in one (rather than two) fragment. A stone (~30cm in length) removed from the exterior profile of the circular feature. As the elevation along the worked stone decreases, the soil, at least in one pocket, is beginning to appear more yellow in color, but still moist and claylike. A statue fragment recovered from within the circular feature.

A stone, ~20cm in length removed from the exterior profile of the circular feature. Material consists of small amounts of pottery and bone as well as large, well preserved terra cotta fragments. A stone, ~20cm in length, removed from the southwest of the exterior profile of the circular feature. A stone, ~40cm in length, removed from the northwestern face of the exterior profile of the feature. The stones from the profile of the feature are now to be placed in a pile due to space constraints. Two small stones (~5cm) removed from the interior of the feature. Soil remains included with a large quantity of carbon. A stone (~15cm) removed in fragments from the southwest exterior face of the feature. Soil appears more yellow on the eastern side of the large worked stone as well. A stone (~30cm) removed from the southwestern face of the external profile of the feature.
Seven stones from the pile of stones removed from the interior of the circular feature appear to be of a different composition and many of these seemed worked, thus they are becoming supplemental finds.

Find 7: Worked Stones (cont.)
A stone (~15cm in length) removed from the southwestern face of the exterior profile of the feature. A stone (~10cm) removed from the same area. Soil within the circular feature appears more yellow and the tiles included are becoming less frequent. A stone (~25cm) removed from the southwestern exterior face. Soil is also included with a patch of deteriorating stone. Stone (~15cm) from the western exterior face removed. Another stone (~30cm) removed from just south of the previous. Soil underneath the stone is extremely moist and claylike. A stone (~15cm) removed from the western face of the feature. Deteriorating stone removed from the face of the feature. A stone (~10cm) removed from the northwestern exterior face. A stone (~30cm) removed from the northwestern face. Soil in the eastern portion of the circular feature, to the east of the worked stone, is a yellow and grey mottled soil with large patches of deteriorating rock.
As it became clear that the worked stone would be too large for removal by the end of the day, area cleaned up for documentation. After the interior of the circular feature was swept, the large 80cm rock from the morning, which had been left in the trench floor due to its size removed by hoisting it up with ropes. Photographs taken of the worked stone in situ. Additionally, many photographs taken of the entire trench for photogrammetry.
Daily Totals:
Terra cotta: 3 3/4 bowl
Pottery: 1 bowl (18 fragments) and 1/2 latte (35 fragments)
Bone: 4 fragments
