1. Continued 10 cm cut initiated yesterday into M-O/69. Soil varies from patches of medium brown to a dominant matrix of medium brown w/ inclusions of charcoal and burnt material. Tile finds increase 2x in M-O/69, as was the case in previous 10 cm cut (see NM II, pp. 45 ) As yet, no significant contextual relationships are evident, and hence tile is removed as it is encountered. It remains as small and worn as was evident at higher levels. 6 unworked bone frags.
2. Stump originally in O/P-69 has had a final cleaning and has been removed from the area. One sling stone was retrieved (Find #1,
).tile = 1 cassetta

3. 5 cm cut (to c. 80 cm b.s.) taken in M-O/71. Soil is essentially that as found in previous 10 cm (see NM 11, pp. 45 ) but with no ashen grey pockets. A possible distinction is that inclusions in matrix are even smaller in size, i.e.
perhaps even more evidence of severe mixing before a secondary deposition. Tile remains for most part small and worn. No significant amounts of fne wares. 6 frags unworked bone.

4. 5 cm cut extended into M-O/70. No major changes recorded except appearance of more pithos fragments. Also to be noted is that tile frags that come out as one moves westerly are larger ... less worn as well. This may perhaps justify taking M-O/69 down by hand pick and trowel in order to clean around tile. Also of significance was finding of large plaster \'brick\' (?) in O/70. This sat in typical soil matrix which held some charcoal, etc. but was itself, not burned. 6 frags unworked bone.
