Sand was placed over the remainder of the trench.  The sand carried up this year was consumed

before the entire trench was covered, so sand recovered when the floor was exposed this year was placed over meters P-W, 74-82.  Sand brought up to the site this year was placed over the unfired cover tiles in S-W, 70-73.  The sand was ~5 cm thick over these tiles, compared to the ~2-3 cm of sand over the rest of the trench.

Approximately 2-3 cm of soil from this year's dump area was spread over the sand to give a covering of ~5 cm above the floor.  The covering was slightly deeper over areas with tiles still exposed.  The pithos and tile piles were covered with soil from the soil dump.  T-25 1982 discard pottery was buried in T-23 1980.

This concludes excavation on Poggio Civitate this season.
