Morning:

Upon commencing excavation divits present from work on Friday were levelled out with picks and trowels. A few (ca. 5-6) pieces of tile were recovered in the western half of the trench. Afterwards the entirety if Locus 2 was picked twice. No material (tile, pottery, etc.) was recovered. The soil remains yellow and flaky in Locus 2. No work was done on the remainder of Locus 1 this morning.

Afternoon:

An additional pass of the trench was made, no material was recovered. It was then decided to close CB 41 due to the apparent sterility of the soil in Locus 2. In preparation for this baulk walls were trimmed, and the trench was scrapped down and roots were clipped. Closing photos will be taken tomorrow morning. Some pottery and tile was recovered

from the baulk trim.

CB 41 was backfilled with earth on the 3rd of August. Tarp was laid accross all the trench, except the stumps beforehand. Pottery was deposited in the cava.
