Work began by opening a new locus, Locus 11 . Locus 11 is located throughout the eastern 3 meters of the trench, in order to expose the heavily burnt, carbonized soil in the orthern half of the trench and a heavy tile concentration in the southern half; this burn layer and tile concentration were exposed in the 2007 season, in the western-most meters of the trench.  Thus Locus 11 will be opened in order to bring the rest of the trench down to this level.  Opening photos and elevations were taken and Locus 11 was declared open.

A light pick pass was begun in the western-most meter of the locus, in order to expose the dark gray, burnt layer in the northern half and the full extent of the tile concentration in the southern.  Soil was sorted in the trench directly into buckets and the dark gray, burnt soil began to appear in the northern part of the trench.  During this pick pass, a number of small bronze flakes were recovered, and so it was decided to bulk find bronze gragments, unless they have a possible shape to them.  Additionally, a sherd of Italo-Corinthian pottery (Find #1), a loomweight fragment (Find #2), a possible bronze fibula clasp (Find #3) and another painted pottery sherd (Find #4) were found.

Another light pick pass was done in the western-most meters of Locus 11 , in order to better expose the burn layer.  Although the burn layerseems to have been exposed in the NW corner of the locus, soil remains heavily mottled and claylike, containing a high quantity of tile, plaster, pottery, and charcoal.  During this pick pass, soil continued to be sorted directly in the trench and a large piece of worked bone (Find #5) and a smaller piece of worked bone (Find #6) were found.

The pick pass begun in the morning continued to be sorted directly in the trench.  Soil remains claylike and heavily mottled and contains high concentrations of tile, plaster, pottery, and bronze.  The NW corner of the locus was trowelled, in order to better expose the dark gray, carbon rich burn layer; this definitively appeared in the NW corner.  Additionally, a possible concentration of tile and large coarseware sherds began to appear in the southern half of the locus; this was trowelled as well.

Once the burn layer was clearly exposed in the NW corner, it was decided to pick again, in order to better expose this new, dark gray, carbon rich soil.

Soil continued to be sorted directly in the trench and remained claylike and mottled.  During this pick pass, a worked bone fragment (Find #7) and a burnt bone plaque fragment with a guilloche border (Find #8) were recovered.
