General remarks This is new locus number opened when the L.5206 is closed. Even though the soil texture and color was very similar to L.5206, a new locus was necessary because plaster surface L. 5216 was discovered in the E of L.5206. In addition, the tumbled down ground stone found near the plaster surface indicates that we may be getting into a new deposit. If there will be no significant change in the soil character, then it might be concluded in the end that this locus and L. 5206 are the same.

Has note Contexts excavated in trenches were recorded using the "locus system." A locus is any discrete three-dimensional entity excavated in a trench. The key to the locus system is the recognition that a locus is any one thing. Differences in soil composition or texture are therefore as important as, for example, the difference between a pit and a wall. If two entities were distinct, they were considered separate loci and were therefore assigned separate locus numbers. It should also be noted that every context excavated in a trench was given a locus number and thus the trench itself is made up completely of excavated loci.
