Description |
Locus 32 is comprised of reddish brown, highly compacted soil. The locus was opened in the southern extent of Locus 28 due to a change in soil color from dark brown to red. Other inclusions in the locus are soft, chalky rocks and some roots, but few other materials were recovered from the locus. No tile or plaster was found, and only a single piece of pottery was present. Locus 32 is placed between a northern and middle column base and directly abuts the middle column base. Initially, the locus was underlying Locus 28, located 0.08 meters west of the 179 E line and roughly 0.5 meters north of the 71 S line. In order to investigate the presence of the reddish brown soil in Locus 32, the sounding was extended by one meter to the west, creating Loci 27 and 35 before reaching the same level as Locus 32. When extended, Locus 32 was two meters long and two meters wide, and had a depth of 0.13 meters. The locus underlies Loci 28 and 35 and shows a continuation of compacted, reddish soil. A layer of brown soil was revealed underneath the red soil of Locus 32 and the locus was closed in order to declare Locus 36. |
