21 July 2023 AM Excavation began in Locus 32 to continue to reveal the dark brown soil. The dark brown soil has been revealed in the west of Locus 32. Small patches of the red soil remains. Leveling and removing the red soil continues. There are few materials being recovered in Locus 32, including no tile and no plaster. A single piece of pottery was found. In Locus 30 a pickpasss with a large pick was completed over the entire locus in order to level the lowest point that remains due to removing Special Find #20. The soil is a brown dense soil and clay mixture with inclusions of roots, small amounts of bone, pottery, plaster, and vitrified terracotta. Once the pick pass was sorted by hand, the baulk walls were improved using small hand picks and trowels. The trench was cleaned in preparation for closing Locus 30 and Locus 29. The area of the workshop was swept and loose soil was cleaned from T103. A 5th photo model of the workshop was taken. Closing elevations were taken for Locus 29 and 30. Closing drawings were completed. Opening elevations and photos were taken for Locus 33.

Locus 33 is composed of a compacted brown clay and soul mixtur that includes a large amount of plaster, turning the spoil a pinkish brown in patches. The locus slopes up in the eastern extent of the trench. The layer contains many fragments of pan and cover tile though they are preserved in fragments measuring ca. 10-15 cm. Once closing and opening documentation was completed, excavation continued in Locus 24. Loose tiles were removed and the area cleaned. While sorting a fragment of tile with an impressed line was found (Special Find #21).

Locus 33 Opening Drawing
PM Excavation continues in Locus 24, lowering areas of high soil and plaster and defining tiles. A cover tile at the southern extent of Locus 24 was determined to be full width. The tile was defined to determine the full extent in preparation for removing the tile. All fragments were defined. Small fragments were dry brushed using a toothbrush and tape was applied in order to number the fragments. A photo was taken of the tile in situ and the fragments were removed and recorded as Special Find #22.
Special Find #22 Full width cover tile (37 associated fragments) Section 1: 175.39 E / 65.69 S, 26.69 m AE Section 2: 175.58 E / 65.55 S, 26.73 m AE Section 3: 175.67 E / 65.36 S, 26.71 m AE Locus 24
The multiple fragments of the cover tile divide into three main sections. The first section measures 0.34 m in length and 0.13 m wide. The second measures 0.25 m in length and 0.23 m in width, and the final section measures 0.27 m in length and 0.23 m in width. Elevations and coordinates were taken for each section. Loose soil was cleaned and daily closing elevations were taken.
